The Untouchables - Capone Rising Update

” You’re nothing but a lot of talk and a badge!” Those were the last words we heard from Al Capone in Brian DePalma’s insanely entertaining The Untouchables some twenty years ago.. Well, just because Elliot Ness put Al behind bars to the swelling score of Ennio Morricone so long ago, the battle for Chicago has just begun..

It’s been a long time coming, but now it looks like Brian De Palma has signed on to direct a prequel to his 1987 mob masterpiece The Untouchables..

DePalma told Tomorrow’s Entertainment that the story will focus on Jimmy Malone’s relationship with Capone during Capone’s rise.. News of a prequel first emerged around this time last year; so here we are a year later, and not all that much has been accomplished.. DePalma did make assurances that the film would be keeping as much of the original feel of the 1987 flick as possible, saying..

” I would like to use a lot of the original music from The Untouchables, ( Which means the amazing score from Ennio Morricone will return ) and the original locations in Chicago..”

I wonder if that will include giving the cast some snazzy costumes from Armani again.. Until DePalma finds his Capone, though, he probably won’t be ‘ rising ‘ anytime soon..

The Untouchables: Capone Rising, as its title suggests, will be about the early life of gangster Al Capone, played in the original by Robert de Niro.. The film will also feature Jimmy Malone, Capone’s cop nemesis, who was played to Oscar - winning effect by Sean Connery..

The film will reportedly not feature Eliot Ness ( Played by Kevin Costner ), the policeman who formed the Untouchables and who played a huge part in bringing down Capone from his position of crime king of Chicago..

DePalma also confirmed that Gerard Butler ( Who signed on back in May 2007 ) is still locked to play the role which Sean Connery won an Oscar for two decades ago.. The young Capone remains uncast and whilst Nicolas Cage was attached, he is no longer on board..

De Palma, who has just finished work on the James Ellroy adaptation, The Black Dahlia, starring Josh Hartnett and Scarlett Johannson, replaces Training Day director Antoine Fuqua, who prior to his departure was reportedly seeking to tie down Sean Penn for the role of Capone..

As well as winning Connery his only Oscar, for best supporting actor, the original The Untouchables was nominated for Ennio Morricone’s original score, best costume design and best art decoration..

The Untouchables is based on the 1959 ABC television series, and was a solid hit, grossing over $76 million domestically.. The film starred Kevin Costner, Sean Connery, Robert De Niro and Andy Garcia..
