Author says Nim's Island filming a surreal experience

The author of the children's book Nim's Island says watching her book being made into a movie in north Queensland is like a dream come true.

The adaptation of Wendy Orr's novel stars Hollywood actors Jodie Foster, Gerard Butler and Abigail Breslin from Little Miss Sunshine.

It is being filmed on Hinchinbrook Island for the next few weeks.

Orr says it is a surreal experience and she is happy to be working with such a great cast.

"I was told early on when Jodie Foster [was] approached ... about playing in it I just couldn't believe [it] because to me she actually looks like my concept which is pretty amazing and ... everybody knows she's an absolutely brilliant actress, so what more could you want," she said.
