UPI picks up 'Nim's Island'

CANNES -- Universal Pictures Intl. has acquired "Nim's Island" for distribution in the U.K., Australia, New Zealand, Spain and Latin America.

U picked up the family fantasy drama from Summit Ent., which is selling it on behalf of Walden Media. "Nim's Island" stars Jodie Foster, Gerard Butler and Abigail Breslin, and starts shooting in July.

"This is a fabulous project, and the deal is another example of our continued commitment to boost our slate with multi-territory acquisitions," said UPI president David Kosse.
