Warner Bros. must sense that they've got something pretty special, as the historical action fantasy, 300, will be released simultaneously to conventional theaters and IMAX theaters on March 9, 2007. The IMAX version of 300 will be remastered to accomodate the (much) larger screen size of IMAX as well as its kick-ass speaker systems to make it a true sensory experience (a nice way of saying "Be sure to bring an entire bottle of Advil"). If you ever wanted to see 300 men with spears and swords take on a quarter of a million bad guys that have arrows and elephants, this is the movie that you've been waiting for.
Directed by Zack Snyder (who brought us the two-hour Mountain Dew commercial known as Dawn of the Dead), 300 is based on Frank Miller's graphic novel about the ancient battle of Thermopylae where King Leonidas and his 300 Spartans stood alone against the massive invading Persian army. The Spartans blocked the only entry to their kingdom, a narrow choke point between high mountains, leaving the Persians no choice but to attack the Spartans in a very confined space.
