Action Movies Garner National Movie Awards Nominations

The nominations were recently announced for the U.K.’s first ever National Movie Awards. A number of action films and stars were nominated for the awards which take place on September 28th, 2007 at Royal Festival Hall in London. Films released September 2006 and August 2007 were eligible for nomination and the awards will be voted on by movie lovers everywhere.

In the Best Action/Adventure category (the first of four movie categories) there were four nominees including the critically acclaimed “300” starring Gerard Butler, the 007 film Casino Royale starring Daniel Craig, the fourth installment of the “Die Hard” series, “Live Free or Die Hard” starring Bruce Willis and the summer blockbuster Transformers starring Shia LaBeouf, Josh Duhamel and Tyrese Gibson.

There was plenty of action with other nominees including the Best Animation Movie. Nominees include “Flushed Away”, “Happy Feet”, “Shrek the Third” and “The Simpsons Movie”. The Best Comedy Movie features the action of Hot Fuzz and “Night at the Museum”. Rounding out the category is “Borat: Cultural Learnings of American for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan” and “Mr. Bean’s Holiday”.

Nominees for the Best Family Movie are four action intense hit movies from this past summer. These include “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer”, “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix”, “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” and “Spider-Man 3”.

Actors and actresses aren’t going to be left out of the U.K.’s National Movie Awards. There are six nominees in the Best Performance – Female category. Casino Royale costars Judi Dench (“M”) and Eva Green (“Vesper Lynd”) are contenders for the award as are Kirsten Dunst (“Mary Jane”) for “Spider-Man 3”, Megan Fox (“Mikaela”) for Transformers, Keira Knightley (“Elizabeth”) for “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” and Emma Watson (“Hermione”) for “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix”.

Not to be outdone, there are actually eight nominees in the Best Performance – Male category. Orlando Bloom and Johnny Depp face off against each other in the category. The two are nominated for their roles as Will Turner and Captain Jack Sparrow, respectively, in “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End”. Another on-screen duo faces off against each other in the same category. Daniel Radcliffe (“Harry Potter”) and Rupert Grint (“Ron”) are also nominated for best actor for “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix”. Other nominees include Daniel Craig as James Bond for Casino Royale, Shia LaBeouf (“Sam Witwicky”) for Transformers, Tobey Maguire (“Peter Parker/Spider-Man”) in “Spider-Man 3” and Bruce Willis (“John McClane”) in “Live Free or Die Hard”.
