'300' star joins Foster, Breslin in adventure film
Gerard Butler is going from ancient Greece to fantasy isle.
Butler ("300") will star opposite Jodie Foster and Abigail Breslin in Fox Walden kids adventure "Nim's Island," based on Wendy Orr's kids tome of the same name.
Husband-wife directing team Jennifer Flackett and Mark Levin are set to begin lensing in late July in Australia from their adapted screenplay.
Paula Mazur is producing the family film, which will bow April 28.
Storyline revolves around a girl who lives on a tropical isle with her father, a scientist whose boat runs into trouble one day, leaving the girl to fend for herself on the island. She begins emailing the author of the book she is reading, and with the author's help, is able to manage. Trio ultimately unites to save the island from careless tour companies.
Butler, who toplined Zack Snyder's "300," will next be seen starring opposite Hilary Swank in dramedy "P.S., I Love You." Warner Bros. bows the film Dec. 21.
After "Nim's Island," Butler is set to star in Lakeshore Entertainment's futuristic thriller "Game," which begins lensing in January.
Film is among the first four releases from Fox Walden, a joint-venture between Fox Filmed Entertainment and Walden Media.
Label, targeting family friendly fare, will release certain 20th Century Fox titles, as well as all Walden Media films.
