Although told through a narrator who fought with the Spartans before escaping, Snyder said it was not a totally one-sided portrayal of the famously harsh warrior people.
Scottish actor Gerard Butler, who plays the lead role of Leonidas in the movie said he expected the mix of commercial and arthouse elements of the film to make it a success.
Gerard Butler, lead actor of "300", said, "This film, I think, is going to be hugely commercial but one of the great things about it is that it always stayed artistic first and foremost so I think coming to the Berlin film festival gives it a lot of kudos in that respect as in, it's very different for a big studio film. It really kind of pushes the envelope in a whole new way of making films and I think this is a great platform for that to say this isn't just another big Hollywood film, it's another big Hollywood film, but with style."
Warner Brothers, the studio behind "300", will hope Snyder can repeat the box office success of another Miller adaptation "Sin City", which made 160 million U.S. dollars worldwide, on a 40 million budget.
"300" will go on international general release in March.
