Special Award for Outstanding Achievement in Make-Up Design - Nick Dudman
This year's recipient of the Special Award for Outstanding Achievement in Make-Up Design is Nick Dudman for his exceptional make-up effects design in the film Beowulf & Grendel.
Beowolf and Grendel was filmed on location in Iceland starring Gerard Butler, Stellan Skarsgard and Sara Polley and set in a world where giant trolls and witches co-exist with humans. According to Maria Topalovich, CEO and President of the Academy, "The exceptional realism and continuity of Nick Dudman's makeup design of Beowolf and Grendel is an integral part of both the story and mood of this epic tale. It was a unanimous decision that Nick and his team be honoured for their artistic vision and technical abilities."
Nick Dudman got his start in the film industry in 1979 working on the character "Yoda" as a trainee to British make-up artist Stuart Freeborn on George Lucas's The Empire Strikes Back. After apprenticing with Freeborn for four years on such films as Superman II, The Return of the Jedi and Top Secret!, went on to work on several blockbuster films including Indiana Jones & the Last Crusade, Interview with the Vampire, Tim Burton's blockbuster classic Batman and the Harry Potter film series.
The Special Award for Outstanding Achievement in Make-Up Design was presented previously to Jacques Lafleur & Pierre Saindon for Cruising Bar /Meet Market in 1990 and to Pierre Saindon for Karmina in 1997.
