Recording superstar Bryan Adams will be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, receiving the honour at this year's Juno Awards to be held April 2 in Halifax. Adams will also perform at the show.

The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) announced Wednesday that Adams will be joining the ranks of musical legends like Neil Young, Leonard Cohen, The Band and Hank Snow in the hallowed Music Hall of Fame.

"Bryan is one of Canada's most admired artists and one of our leading ambassadors. We are proud to have him join the Canadian Music Hall of Fame," said Melanie Berry, President of CARAS.

"His distinguished collection of influential recordings have entertained and inspired many generations of music-lovers and will continue to do so."

Long-time Canadian music scene mainstay Anne Murray told CTV's eTalk Daily "Bryan Adams is the biggest act this country has ever produced. This recognition is long overdue."

His music resonates with a younger generation of Canadians as well. Montreal R&B artist Karl Wolf, who releases his debut album Feb. 14, told eTalk that Adams' career and talent is inspiring to others hoping to make it big.

"He's such a great songwriter and he's Canadian and worldwide," Wolf said. "That's where we want to be."

Adams kicked off his career over 25 years ago when he released his self-titled album in 1980. He has been a stalwart member of Canada's music scene since his 1983 album Cuts Like A Knife propelled him to the Top 10.

From there, his 1984 release Reckless earned him a Diamond Award, the top spot on the charts, and made him the first Canadian artist to break the million dollar sales mark.

It also made the tune 'Summer of '69' an inseparable companion to the Canadian summer.

To date, Adams has sold more than 60 million records worldwide.

He is a Juno, Grammy, and American Music Award winner with a career that has taken him around the world countless times, including performances at the historic Live Aid concert in 1985 and 20 years later at Live 8 in Barrie, Ont.

He has also received a number of Oscar and Golden Globe nominations.

Adams' career has taken him beyond music, however.

He is also an accomplished photographer who has published three books, with proceeds going to breast cancer research, and is one of the few photographers who has been granted the honour of photographing Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.

He is committed to humanitarian causes, and was the first rock artist ever to play in Vietnam. In January he became the first artist of his stature to perform in Pakistan.

Adams will join a host of established and up-and-coming Canadian artists at April's Juno Awards ceremony. This year's lineup will include Coldplay, Nickelback and jazz crooner Michael Buble.

Legendary folk singer Bruce Cockburn will also be putting in an appearance at the Junos this year, and will receive the first ever Humanitarian Award.
