Director Andrew Douglas (pictured on the set of THE AMITYVILLE HORROR) has dropped out of Screen Gems’ PRIEST. Fango learned yesterday of his departure, and that producers Michael De Luca and Ghost House Pictures are now scanning the Hollywood horizon for a new helmer.
In the vein of THE SEARCHERS, and based on Min-Woo Hyung’s graphic novel, PRIEST is a horror/action yarn following retired man of the cloth as he tracks down a band of rogue vampires that have kidnapped his niece; joining the hunt are a sheriff and a priestess. Cory Goodman adapted the tale for the screen, and Gerard (300) Butler is expected to play titular role. Shooting was set to begin in Mexico last October, but due to unknown factors, the project was pushed back from a 2007 release to sometime in ’08. When a new director saddles up, we’ll let you know.
