So I've had the trailer for Frank Miller's 300 up all weekend, so I imagine most of you have seen it by now. I read the graphic novel sometime back, and I love that they're making it into a movie. It's such a fun take on the Battle of Thermopylae.
I've heard some people around the internet tubes complaining that 300 isn't historically accurate. Well no shit. The movie is based off a comic book, which is based off an event that actually took place. It isn't intended to be a direct account of what actually took place. Even historians have trouble agreeing on what actually took place. Some say it was 10,000 Persians, some say 1,000,000.
The point is, I feel Miller's 300 falls into a niche of comic books not unlike the Classics Illustrated series. Some education amidst a whole lot of entertainment. And if the movie inspires someone to look into the historical facts surrounding the actual events, then plus one for learning. But people don't want to spend $10 to go to a movie theater to see what they could catch on the History channel at home for free.
At least Frank Miller's retelling is a visceral, noble, and really fucking cool retelling of the events. And there's more historical accuracy to be had there than, say, Troy of a couple years back.
So the Tokyo Game Show has wrapped up. I've got to say, I've been pretty disappointed with Microsoft's "Bringing it Home" campaign. I don't know, I guess I was just hoping for some more actual demos. Seems like all we got are videos, and I've already stated my certain distrust of videos. Perhaps X06 will bring us something more tasty.
Some of you have been asking about the availability of the Ctrl+Alt+Del books. We have a very limited number left, and we're working on getting them up in our new store before Volume 3 comes out this fall. So keep an eye on the newsposts; I'll let you know as soon as I have some details. It should be relatively soon.
