Screem Gems has been looking for their lead in the adaptation of Priest and it appears an ex-Phantom is ready to step in.

According to Variety, Screen Gems is currently in negotiations with Gerard Butler to have him star in Priest.

The film, directed by Amityville Horror helmer Andrew Douglas, is based on Tokyopop's graphic novel created by Min-Woo Hyung.

Considered a vampire western, the story tells of a warrior priest who disobeys church law by teaming with a sheriff and a priestess to track down a band of renegade vampires who have kidnapped his niece.

Fortunately for the priest, the actor is currently building up his shape on the set of 300 as we speak.




Most moviegoers should remember Gerard Butler for his role as the Phantom in Joel Schumacher's bigscreen adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom of the Opera. Though there were some complaints on his voice, I thought he nailed the part.
