Burbank (CA) - The intense action flick 300 has easily proven its spot as the top-selling HD video yet, nearing its way to becoming the first high-def disc to sell more than 500,000 copies.

According to its latest numbers, Warner Bros announced that 300 has surpassed the 400,000 unit mark. That is more than any other Blu-ray or HD DVD movie.

The film, set in 480 BC and based on Frank Miller's novel about the Battle of Thermopylae, earned over $210 million in the box office and sold over 250,000 HD DVD and Blu-ray copies in its first week on store shelves.

Warner is the only major studio that continues to support both high definition formats, and claims that it owns 36% market share of all next-gen DVD sales.

The Blu-ray version of 300 has outsold the HD DVD version by a margin of around two-to-one, which is the same for most dual-format releases to date. Blu-ray movie sales on whole are outperforming the competing format by a margin of around four-to-one.
