BUSSELTON teenager Sean Keenan has leaped from a children's TV show to the silver screen, landing a dream role alongside Academy Award winner Jodie Foster.
The 14-year-old auditioned for the role in Nim's Island after being seen on the Nine Network's children's show Lockie Leonard.

"I have to have an American accent, so that is going to be interesting,'' Keenan told The Sunday Times.

"I've got a book, Learning to Speak American, it teaches you to do the right mouth movements and stuff. I guess there is a lot to learn.''

Production begins at Warner Roadshow Studios on the Gold Coast tomorrow. It is being directed by Americans Jennifer Flackett and Mark Levin.

The film also stars Oscar nominee Abigail Breslin, who starred in Little Miss Sunshine, and Gerard Butler.

Based on a book by Wendy Orr and Kerry Millard, the fantasy tale tells of a young girl, Nim (Breslin), who lives on an isolated island with her scientist father (Butler).

Keenan, who is in Year 9, plays Nim's imaginary friend, Huckleberry Finn.

"Hollywood is a long way off but, hopefully if I keep landing roles like this, I will work my way up there,'' said Keenan, who has a twin sister, Lily.

"I will just keep trying,'' he said.
