Butler, Thandie among those pulling Ritchie's next job
June 25, 2007 - Writer-director Guy Ritchie has tapped five actors to star in his new caper movie, RocknRolla. 300 star Gerard Butler toplines the quintet, which also includes Tom Wilkinson (Batman Begins), Thandie Newton (M:I-2), Idris Elba (The Wire) and rapper-actor Chris "Ludacris" Bridges.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Butler stars as a One Two, a street-smart mobster who has learned to play both sides of the fence, and Wilkinson is playing the lethal head mobster, Lenny Cole, part of London's old mob regime, which is quickly losing ground to the wealthier foreign mob."
Newton will play Stella, a mob accountant and One Two's lover, while Elba plays One Two's partner Mumbles. Ludacris will portray Roman, an American musician in London.
THR says RocknRolla "is set in motion when a Russian mobster orchestrates a crooked land deal and millions of dollars are thrown up for grabs, with all of London's criminal underworld players wanting in on the action."
Joel Silver's Dark Castle Entertainment is producing for Warner Bros. Filming begins June 19 in London.
